Home

Welcome to the official home of the Stromness Academy Eco Group. This site was created and is totally maintained by members of the Eco Group. On this site, you will find news of our work, photos of any projects we are currently working on or have finished, teaching resources, a method of getting into contact with us or other eco-related people and more. If you happen to enjoy discussions then you are in luck because Orkney's only eco-forum is a part of this site. Feel free to browse and remember to bookmark us and visit frequently because we will update the site often (weekly whenever possible).

New Website Manager

As Andrew Mowat is leaving at the end of this school year, somebody else has to take on the role of Website Manager. Andrew approached me as a good substitute. So I am happy to say that I have taken on the role until I leave school.

The new eco schools logo
Well after something of an online hiatus (we have been working hard, just not updating the site so much), we're back with a couple of updates. First and foremost, we now have our very own logo! It was conceptualised by Sandy Firth and Leanne Fischler, created by Sandy and edited by myself. And finally, this week we are going to reveal something that we are very proud of. The new (mildly anticipated) Eco Schools notice board! It was worked on by the whole group from October to before Christmas last year and is finally finished. Photos of it can be found in our "Photos" section (where else would you look?!).

Updates!

Well, it's been a while but we've got a good few things to show for it. Firstly, we've added photos of the setting up of our brand new compost bins to the website. As ever, go to the photos section to check those out. I've been working on a text document version of 10:10's home checklist for those of you without PDF readers. If you are interested, then go get it in the resources section. I've been doing some minor work on the site too so expect to see caption for each photo soon enough. Finally, I have created a new user group on the forums for our best contributers. The 'Eco Member' group is for people who consistently start good discussions, contribute well and are committed to helping the group. There are a good few small perks to being an Eco Member that our ordinary members don't get, so it's a reward, of sorts. Right, that's that update done with, stand by for photos of the new notice board and the grand unveiling of our new logo.

New Eco Group Message Board

Not even a week has passed since the start of the new school year and we are already improving the site by creating an Eco Group Message Board for suggestions, questions, discussions of our actions and more. Don't worry if you want to talk about non eco-related topics either as there is a general discussion area too. Register to be able to view every forum. As far as we know, it is the only eco-related message board in Orkney. Access the boards through the forums tab or by typing this into your browser's address bar: http://z6.invisionfree.com/SA_Eco_Group/index.php?

Formation of the Eco-Committee

An Eco Committee has been formed in Stromness Academy. It is separate to the Eco Group that maintains this site, however it will probably have some influence on said group's actions. It is currently formed of Mrs Hunter, Mrs Learmonth, Mr Barber, Katie-Beth Brookfield, Morna Brown, Sandy Firth, Andrew Mowat, Daniel Johnston and Matthew Morgan. So far two meetings of the committee have taken place and they already have some plans laid out.

It's official!

After a short period of un-certainty, we have been confirmed as the official Eco Group's official home. The site was previously hosted on Google Sites, but due to the technical restraints of using it, we decided to move. If you go the old site now, you will simply be directed back to here.

We're online

Just a small note to say that we are now online here, however this is not yet the official home of the Stromness Academy Eco Group. If it is decided that we officially move to Weebly, you can then expect a small article in the news section.
